TELEVISION AND VIDEO

EEI is qualified and experienced in most aspects of television and video systems as related to educational uses. The following cababilities have been demonstrated.

  • CABLE INSTALLATION:  Install coaxial cable systems of either the "home-run" or "tapped" types, in new construction or revision of existing structures, single building or campus wide. Our work is standards-based, fully tested to the individual drops, and guaranteed. We use only the highest quality, military-standard cable and components.

  • TELEVISION//VIDEO HEAD-END: Provide head-end systems in schools, to any desired level. These systems can be for reception and distribution of  broadcast television; integration with existing cable systems; or complete stand-alone head-ends. We can provide complete packaged head-ends, assembled in our shops and tested, and then installed at the school in a matter of an hour or so. A very popular configuration which we have supplied has the following capabilities, installed in one standard seven-foot cabinet:

Interface to cable channels (typically channels 2-39)
            A 13-inch, high-quality, TV/Monitor
Seven local-origination channels (typically channels 40-47)
Two VCR's which can be used for input to any local-origination channel
Four "slots" for satellite receivers for  input to any local-origination channel
An AM/FM radio for background music
A Videonics Titeler for local announcements
An alternative to the Titeler is a computer with Power Point software
A "launch amplifier" to amplify the channels for school-wide distribution.

  • REMOTE CAMERA CART: Many Districts have extensive television cable systems installed in their campuses, which have inherent two-way capability. However, this two-way capability is frequenctly not put to use. Such two-way capability could be used to allow the school administration to ogirinate announcements or classes in one location of the school for live distribution to part or all of the classrooms, or could be used by the students in a "performing arts" class to originate a program in their classroom for distribution to all of the school.

This capability makes use of what is called  the "Sub-Band", a group of "channels" which occupy frequencies below Channel 2, and which are not normally broadcast. However, equipment is available which allows these "sub-band" frequencies to be used for tranmission of television signals "upstream" if you will from any location in a distribution network. At the head-end these sub-band signals are translated to normal-band signals for distribution back "down-stream" to the entire school. EEI has configured and delivered a "Camera Cart" which includes the equipment necessary for this, as well as secure lockable storage for cameras and other sensitive equipment.
